For the past 9 years I’ve lived in Hove. Mainly I’ve loved it here. I made friends quickly and ingrained myself into the business community quite naturally as a result of running a start up that was all about sharing, caring for the environment and building community. Brighton embraced it which was lovely.
So, the birthday thing… for those past 9 years, I’ve generally had a lovely birthday dinner at one of this city’s brilliant restaurants with a group of say 8-12 friends. And it’s been lovely. We chat, catch up, eat and drink. And, being the birthday girl, I receive gifts. Lucky me! But this year, I’m just not feeling it. No offence to my friends but I want to duck out. Chatting this through with one of my best friends and and my partner recently, I realised it’s not an issue. “Do what you want” they said. “Do something different” they said. “Have several smaller get togethers” they said.
Luckily, I was a day into my new exercise regime when I revisited this with my partner. Already the endorphins and serotonin were kicking in and I was feeling a tiny amount of motivation to get off my backside. This resulted in a pretty good and, dare I say it, exciting discussion about things that I wanted to do. These included:
Jet ski-ing, going to an alcohol free rave, glamping and horse riding.

Being 49 wasn’t going to be so bad after all. On Saturday 27 July, we’re going jet ski-ing. On Sunday 28 July we’re heading to Morning Gloryville, an alcohol free rave, part of Hackney Wicked Festival. Watch this space for glamping and horse riding updates…
